GEMA and BlackBerry Join Forces to Help Companies Transition to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and BlackBerry 10 Devices

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND and WATERLOO, ON, May 8, 2013 — The Global Enterprise Mobility Alliance (GEMA) and BlackBerry® (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB) today announced the signing of a BlackBerry® 10 Readiness Services global agreement to make the transition to BlackBerry Enterprise® Service 10 and migration to BlackBerry® 10 simple and seamless for enterprise customers worldwide.

Under this agreement, GEMA will provide the BlackBerry® Change Management and Planning with Remote Installation Service to customers who need assistance in planning and executing the transition to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, as well as introducing BlackBerry 10 devices. Currently, GEMA members are advising and supporting more than 150 organizations with the transition, and to date have helped more than 30 customers with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 installations globally.

“We are pleased with the service GEMA, in particular SCHIFFL (one of GEMA’s founding members), has provided in installing and managing our BlackBerry 10 infrastructure across Europe. GEMA’s competence and professionalism enabled us to go live directly after launch of the BlackBerry 10 platform in January,” said Jens Bartolatus, Managing Director/CIO of LE CROBAG GmbH & Co. KG.

GEMA members provide the new BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 as a managed service. The service delivers a cost-efficient, secure, reliable and scalable solution that provides a globally consistent approach to service delivery and technical expertise, enabling:

Mobile device management (MDM) and administration for BlackBerry, iOS, and Android smartphones and tablets

The ability to push mandatory applications and updates to BlackBerry users and alerts to iOS and Android users of required applications

The capability to utilize and manage BlackBerry® Balance™ technology, which enables a customer to use the device for both work and personal purposes by keeping business information and applications highly secure and separate from personal information

Nick McQuire, Managing Director and CEO of GEMA International Limited, said, “GEMA is committed to helping companies around the globe effectively use mobile technology. Trends like BYOD and the flourishing diversity of devices in the market are making it very challenging for enterprises to secure and manage their information, while still making it accessible to their employees. As such, the GEMA members continue to provide frequent counsel on mobile device management to businesses around the world and are excited to help customers such as Le Crobag transition to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.”

David J. Smith, EVP, Enterprise Mobile Computing at BlackBerry said, “GEMA and BlackBerry continue to work closely together, with BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 providing a robust and secure way for organizations to manage smartphones and tablets, and GEMA providing sound guidance and the support to help multinational customers make enterprise mobility a reality within their organizations.”

GEMA currently comprises six members that collectively span much of the globe: Emitac Mobile Solutions, LLC (EMS) (Middle East, Africa, CIS, and Eastern Europe); MSC Mobility Pty Ltd (Australia and New Zealand); Navita (Latin America); Beijing Nation Sky (China); SCHIFFL GmbH & Co. KG (Germany, Austria and Switzerland); and Vox Mobile Inc. (U.S. and Canada).

NEW YORK CITY (May 1, 2013) – The Global Enterprise Mobility Alliance (GEMA) today announced that noted enterprise mobility expert Nicholas (Nick) McQuire has been named managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of the alliance. McQuire comes to GEMA from the London office of research organization IDC, where he served as the vice president of enterprise mobility strategies.

“Nick is one of the most recognizable names in enterprise mobility, with sharp insight and deep understanding of the technologies and the value they bring,” said John Marshall, CEO and president of AirWatch. “His experience as a trusted advisor to many global organizations will prove invaluable to ensuring that GEMA continues to refine its offering and better serve the global enterprise.”

McQuire has more than 12 years’ experience working in the enterprise mobility sector. At IDC, he advised leading industry and enterprise clients on critical trends and best practices shaping the global enterprise mobility sector. Prior to IDC, McQuire worked at BT Global Services within the firm’s Marketing Centre of Excellence function where he provided regular strategic and customer insight for its mobility and unified communications portfolios. Before joining BT Global Services, he headed up European enterprise mobility research at Yankee Group.

“We at SCHIFFL are pleased that Nick McQuire has chosen to join GEMA. Nick is well known in the industry and is a trusted advisor to many CIOs around the world who will be looking to GEMA to help them implement their Enterprise Mobility Strategies. Nick brings to GEMA strong leadership and a clear understanding of the issues multi-nationals face in delivering on a global strategy,” said Klaus Schiffl, CEO, SCHIFFL GmbH & Co. KG, Germany.

“We have great respect for Nick and for his understanding of Complete Enterprise Mobility and the transformative impact it can have organizations of all sizes,” said Kris Snyder, CEO of Vox Mobile, Inc.” His global perspectives will provide unique and immediately recognizable value to our multi-national clients, the type of value we were hoping to create when we joined GEMA as a founding member.”

“As an emerging, critical provider of global managed mobility services, GEMA presents both a fantastic challenge and a great opportunity for me,” said McQuire. “I’ve spent years identifying and evaluating leading-edge mobility technologies for global firms, and now I look forward to helping steer GEMA through its next phase of evolution. Above all, I look forward to helping multi-nationals navigate tremendous technology change to achieve greater strategic value from mobility, critical to growing and competing on a global scale.”

There is no going back when telecom operators move to become integrators of information and communication technology (ICT) , since carriers are seeking ways to avoid becoming just dumb pipe. “They aim to increase revenue through ICT by adding services to their business-to-business (B2B) portfolio.

Focusing on corporate customers, the Brazilian telecom operator Oi announced during this week’s Ciab event (check all stories) the launch of two managed service offerings: a mobile device management system named Oi Gestão Mobilidade and a WAN management service dubbed Oi Gestão WAN. While embracing more managed services, Oi forecasted this segment will generate revenues of U.S.$98.58 million (R$200 million) annually by 2015.

Oi plans to have managed services represent about 10% of its corporate business. B2B services account for about 30% of the carrier’s total revenues. “In the value chain, IT and telecommunications are integrated, which is an advantage for us,” said Ronaldo Motta, Oi’s marketing director. Motta also explained that as a telecom operator, Oi can be ahead of its IT integrator competitors.

Both services complement its B2B portfolio, which also includes cloud services dubbed SmartCloud, which was launched earlier this year. Oi’s corporate roadmap includes services and solutions such as machine-to-machine platform, LAN and WLAN management, mobile applications, perimeter security and clean pipe, as well as unified communications and collaboration offerings.

“We aim to provide IT and telecommunications management solutions, so CIOs can be more focused on their company’s core business,” said Motta. It is part of Oi’s newest approach to the corporate market. Motta noted the carrier invested U.S.$9.86 million (R$20 million) to launch both services and forecasts U.S.$49.34 million (R$100 million) in additional investments by 2015 to complement its managed services portfolio.

For both offerings, Oi has teamed up with partners: Juniper and Navita for mobile device management and security, and CA Technologies for WAN management. The carrier will integrate the partners’ tools with its own solutions and sell them bundled together as “value added services.”

Under Oi Gestão Mobilidade, the carrier provides device management and monitoring in compliance with IT security rules. As for Oi Gestão WAN, the telecom operator manages the capacity and performance of the network, evaluating and anticipating issues.
