Vox Mobile, GEMA Team Up to Develop New ‘Open Source’ Model for Global Consulting Best Practices

GEMA Members Collaborate, Share Expertise in Groundbreaking Effort to Standardize Consulting Practices, Streamline Enterprise Mobility Solutions and Services across 110+ Countries

CLEVELAND, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vox Mobile, the leading provider of complete enterprise mobility solutions, has teamed up with the Global Enterprise Mobility Alliance (GEMA) and 12 other alliance members to formalize a new set of global best practices to guide managed mobility services (MMS) providers in consulting with customers and clients to develop, launch and manage enterprise mobility solutions.

Vox Mobile hosted the first-ever GEMA Consulting Summit the week of June, 23 to facilitate the groundbreaking collaboration, aimed at developing a set of open source-style best practice standards that would provide a framework for enterprise mobility solution providers around the world to use in solving enterprise mobility challenges for multi-national companies. Representatives from 10 GEMA members participated, covering operations in more than 110 countries, including EVRY in the Nordics; SCHIFFL in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; EMS in the Middle East, Africa, the former Soviet Republics in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia; Vox in the U.S. and Canada; Qolcom in the UK, MSC in Australia and SouthEast Asia, CWSi in Ireland, XSAT in India, and BMobile in Mexico.

"There is a very strong desire among MNCs for the ability to offer a seamless mobile experience for their users across any nation, language, culture or carrier," said Nick McQuire CEO of GEMA. "However, right now, the only option for most is a complex piecemeal approach that requires companies to find and work with individual providers in every market, each with different offerings, unique protocols, challenges and solutions."

"We're working to solve that problem," said Kris Snyder, CEO of Vox Mobile, a founding member of GEMA and the only U.S. representative in the alliance. "Our goal is to develop a set of international standards based on our work with hundreds of clients here in the U.S., along with the collective expertise of GEMA members, to help organizations solve service, management, security, BYOD and other mobility challenges on a global scale."

While each GEMA member already offers some form of consulting, many are looking to develop a more mature set of practices to standardize the process and address emerging challenges. GEMA's goal is to build an open-source type of model that provides a foundation for structuring client engagement, policies, approaches and integrations, which can be customized or localized based on specific market variables. The streamlined model could then be implemented in any market with solutions available from GEMA members, designed for seamless integration.

"This summit and the collective effort of GEMA members is giving us an opportunity to develop our product offering and consulting practice much faster than we could do on our own to stay ahead of the curve in technology and solutions," said Heiko Friedrich, CTO with SCHIFFL. "For example, the trend toward BYOD hasn't really taken hold in Germany yet, but it's coming. With this foundation, we'll be ready with a mature solution to resolve those issues, while our competitors are still working to build one from scratch."

During the summit, GEMA members explored a number of mobile solution modules in-depth, based primarily on Vox Mobile's proven consulting product offerings in the areas of BYOD, MDM/EMM selection, mobile policy and governance and Vox Mobile's proprietary strategy planning tool, The Enterprise Mobility Blueprint. All the engagement documentation, templates and project plans are now available on a shared platform, where GEMA members can access, customize, and extend the tools for local application or as part of multi-national delivery. The group is also working to build new modules to address Wi-Fi integration and application development.

As a result of the summit, the Mobile Thought Leaders group pioneered by Vox is also expanding globally, with new chapters launching in London, Berlin, Oslo and Dubai, based on the framework for the existing 12 U.S. chapters that have already collectively hosted over 50 events.

STOCKHOLM, LONDON,  ZURICH, Thursday May 22nd 2014 – The Global Enterprise Mobility Alliance (GEMA), the world’s leading independent joint venture providing enterprise mobility managed services (MMS) to multinational organisations, today announced it has signed an agreement with the leading Nordics IT service provider EVRY ASA (Oslo Stock Exchange: EVRY) as the joint venture’s exclusive member for the Nordic region, significantly enhancing GEMA's managed enterprise mobility service capabilities and presence in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Headquartered in Stockholm, EVRY is the second largest IT services company in the Nordics, with 10,000 employees, offices across 50 Nordic towns and cities and more than 14,000 public and private sector customers. EVRY is the product of the largest-ever Nordic IT merger between Norway’s two largest IT companies; EDB and ErgoGroup.

EVRY's mobile division, employing over 60 people, has provided a full lifecycle of managed mobile IT services to Nordic enterprises for over 15 years.

GEMA’s CEO Nicholas McQuire said: “The addition of EVRY unquestionably enhances GEMA's market-leading, locally-delivered, managed enterprise mobility service platform for multinationals. EVRY are the clear local leaders in IT services across the mobile and traditional IT stacks and we are proud that global organisations inside and outside of the Nordic region can now look to expand the support of their mobility projects through the partnership of EVRY-GEMA.”

McQuire added: “As exclusive and strategic joint-venture partners, our members continue to deepen their strategic and operational coordination within GEMA, as customer and market demands around enterprise mobility grow in speed and complexity. I am therefore also excited by the capabilities EVRY brings to the rapidly-growing GEMA member community as well.”

As a result of the agreement, EVRY will become GEMA’s exclusive member covering the Nordic region for the joint venture and the 13th member overall, including the sixth partner in Europe. EVRY’s entry represents a growth of over 100% in new members in GEMA in under 12 months.

“The cooperation with GEMA can be regarded as a natural progression of our successful focus on mobility" said Niclas Ekblad, EVP Sweden, EVRY.  "The demand for these services is growing and the ability to offer turnkey solutions is becoming increasingly important as companies and operators need to handle both local and global requirements. In this context, we anticipate that our membership in GEMA will enhance our attractiveness for new and existing customers.”

Robin Blomquist, Commercial Officer at EVRY Lesswire Solutions said:  “To promote the continued success of mobility, we need to be able to accompany our existing customers internationally, as well as advance our positions among global companies and operators seeking a partner in the Nordic Region. Through membership of GEMA, we now have the opportunity to share in a network and knowledge base that will further strengthen our offering. GEMA Insight: GEMA Discusses The Next Enterprise Mobility Wave – Android in the Enterprise

Gartner predicted earlier this year that there will be over 1 billion Android smartphones shipped in 2014, a 26% growth over 2013. These are staggering numbers illustrating how important Android is to the future of the mobile technology industry.

But in the enterprise, formal adoption and deployment of Android has been slow by comparison. Why is this?

As leading specialist managed mobility service providers and systems integrators from across the globe, GEMA members are in constant consultation with CIOs on how they transform their businesses through the strategic use of mobile technology.

This unique position gives us a market-leading “real world” grasp on local and global customer needs as well as the best practices on the deployment of Android-based smartphones and tablets in enterprises across the planet.

At the highest level, what we consistently hear all over the world from CIOs on Android is that while user demand,  informal BYOD and economic interest in Android devices are accelerating, many IT departments still need education on the risks – complexity, fragmentation and data security - before adopting a more strategic and comprehensive approach to the platform.

This education is particularly necessary in multinational firms looking to offer global support due to the complexity of the Android ecosystem globally, especially in markets like China and India for instance.

With over 30% of total smartphone market share last year according to Gartner, it is in this environment where GEMA partners Samsung are making big strides with the KNOX platform.

In this video with ComputerWorld UK and TechWorld Editor in Chief Mike Simons, we discuss the Android in the enterprise topic further and the important role that Samsung will play in its future.

We also cover some important considerations enterprises must factor into their enterprise mobility strategies as they look to roll out Android more comprehensively to their mobile workforce in 2014.

There is no doubt Android, both smartphones and tablets, represent a key part of the next wave in enterprise mobility over the next few years kicked off by Microsoft and Blackberry in the early 2000s and evolved by Apple in the latter part of the decade.

It is therefore important firms have the right strategy today including a mobile security and management architecture that delivers data security and compliance without compromising the fantastic user experience that consumers love about Android and Samsung devices in particular.

We hope you like it!
